Today, TaylorMade-adidas Golf, the golf segment of the adidas Group, invited brand ambassadors and friends to Herzogenaurach to compete against each other in a golf tournament at the Golf-Club Herzogenaurach. As tournament host, Herbert Hainer, CEO of the adidas Group, welcomed amongst others the TaylorMade Tour Staff professionals Martin Kaymer, Sergio Garcia and British Open Champion Darren Clarke, as well as more than a dozen guests from the world of sports, business and entertainment.
The golfers, who included Umberto Gandini (AC Milan), Wolfgang Holzhäuser (Bayer Leverkusen), Karl Hopfner and Uli Hoeneß (FC Bayern Munich) as well as the new HSV goalkeeper René Adler and football legend Franz Beckenbauer, started the tournament day with a golf clinic of a very special kind where the golf pros shared their tips. Befitting all the current excitement surrounding the UEFA EURO 2012TM, the pros also took part in activities such
as goal wall shooting with golf balls and footballs.
In the course of the tournament, Herbert Hainer spoke positively about the current developments in the golf market: “We are delighted with the continuing dominance of our golf business, TaylorMade-adidas Golf. Two years ago, we became the world's number one golf company. Since then, we
have succeeded in significantly expanding this market leadership. Golf is one of the success stories for the adidas Group and that's why we're very proud today to once again bring together the golfing elite with our partners from the world of sports and entertainment.”
At 10 a.m., a total of 10 flights, each consisting of one golf professional and three guests, commenced the 18-hole round. Several employees of the adidas Group, who were drawn by lot in an internal raffle, also took part, acting as caddies for the golf pros. And a number of golfers were supported by highprofile caddies. For example, Martin Kaymer's caddie on the course was the tennis player Andrea Petkovic, who is currently no. 18 in the WTA ranking, and Roman Gottschalk's golf clubs were carried by his father, Thomas. In order to support the up-and-coming players, two young golfers, Franziska Friedrich from Golf Club Abenberg and Michael Heffner from Golf Club Oberfranken, were invited to take part and demonstrate their talents.
Ben Sharpe, Managing Director of TaylorMade-adidas Golf EMEA and Pacific, was also amongst the participants: “I am really excited about this tournament here at the Group's headquarters because it does show the enthusiasm the entire company has for golf. And we are proud to be able to present our brands here today as the world’s biggest golf company.”
