Staff Professional Jeev Milkha Singh used a full bag of Callaway clubs including the fully adjustable RAZR Fit Driver and an Odyssey Protype No #7 putter to book his place in this week’s Open Championship, following a sudden death play-off victory in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart Golf Links.

A 12-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole earned the 40-year-old a first prize of £416,660, but more importantly, the last qualifying place for this week’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes in Lancashire – marking only his second appearance in the event, the first being at Carnoustie in 2007.

“I just love links golf,” said Singh. “I’m so looking forward to the Open Championship. Coming from India, I’m not used to links courses but since travelling to Europe I’ve played a lot of them. This victory has given me great confidence and good things are on the way.”
“I’d like to thank Callaway for all its support over the last few years, especially during the difficult times when I’ve been battling with injury,” he added.

Singh, the first Indian to play on The European Tour, earned his place in the playoff when he birdied four of the first six holes in the final round, then added another on the 363-yard 10th before parring the next eight, for a round of 67 and a 17-under par total.
“I was just enjoying a cup of tea and some chocolate cake and watching the final groups on television, and suddenly got excited!” said Singh.

His victory caps a strong tournament for Callaway with fellow Staff Professional, Swede Alex Noren, claiming joint third position.
“We are thrilled to have Jeev with us at the Open Championship this week and I congratulate him on his return to winning ways. With injuries hampering his career in recent years, it was great to see him back on form and watch him master the links of Castle Stuart” said Neil Howie, Managing Director of Callaway Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“Along with Jeev we have a strong contingent of staffers competing to lift the Claret Jug this week. We believe that the added power and accuracy of the RAZR Fit Driver coupled with the exceptional consistency of the HEX Black Tour Ball, will stand them in good stead to overcome the challenging conditions of both the course and the weather.”

Off the course, Jeev Milkha Singh’s achievements have made him a sporting star in India. He was even granted the Padma Shri by the Indian government, an award – the equivalent of a knighthood – given to Indian citizens to recognise their distinguished contribution in various spheres of public life, including the arts, industry and sports.
