Callaway Golf Company today announced that Staff Professional Ernie Els used a full bag of Callaway and Odyssey equipment to win the 2012 Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, including the RAZR Fit Driver, HEX Black Tour Golf Ball and Odyssey White Hot Putter.
Els’ win marks the third major championship victory for the Callaway RAZR Fit Driver this season, and the second major championship win in two weeks.
The RAZR Fit, Callaway’s first fully adjustable driver, has now won 10 tournaments worldwide – including five overall victories in the last seven weeks – with Ernie averaging 298.1 yards with his 8.5° RAZR Fit at Royal Lytham, nearly 15 yards further than the field average.
Similarly, the HEX Black Tour golf ball has been used in four of the last seven wins on the European Tour, where the ball’s aerodynamic properties help mitigate typically windy conditions.

Incredibly, Ernie’s win also marked the 15th victory for Odyssey putters on the European Tour this season. (The nearest competing putter brand has just three tournament wins). Odyssey putters have now been in the hands of nine out of the last 12 European Tour event winners. Additionally, the #1 Putter in Golf has also claimed 13 worldwide wins over the last nine weeks, and 25 overall wins this season.
At Royal Lytham, Odyssey putters were used by 34% of the field, including seven golfers who finished in the top 10 on the leaderboard.
Els’ steady use of his 44.5” Odyssey White Hot XG #1 putter was both crucial and clutch down the stretch. In fact, ‘The Big Easy’ birdied four of the tournament’s final nine holes to card a back nine 32, and drained a pivotal 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th to finish at 7-under par and claim the coveted Claret Jug.
After the round, the Callaway Staff Professional thanked the Company for its support over the last several years. “The Callaway people have stood behind me and really helped me out,” said Els in a post-championship interview.

The Callaway equipment in Ernie Els’ bag this week, which helped him win the fourth major tournament – and the second Claret Jug - of his storied career, included:
