Branden Grace – playing with Tiger Woods for the third day running – made an incredible start to the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational third round to climb into the top ten.
The South African, who has taken The European Tour by storm recording three victories already this year, had spoken of a “dream draw” after being partnered with the former World Number One at Firestone for the first two rounds.
But with both players reaching the halfway stage two over par, the 25 year old got another round in the company of the 14-time Major winner.
While plenty would have expected Woods to come surging through the field, it was Grace – with six birdies in his first ten holes – who came storming into contention.
At four under for the week Grace was up into a tie for eighth, still seven behind American halfway leader Jim Furyk.
The former US Open Champion was two clear of Rafael Cabrera-Bello and three ahead of former Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, with Grace the only player already on the course to have infiltrated the top 18.
