Mark Staunton continued his dominance of The European Tour Qualifying School First Stage Section A at the Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course, in Scotland.

The Irishman is an emphatic six shots clear of his nearest rival, compatriot Peter O’Keefe, after signing for a round of 70 to move to 11 under par.

Barring an unlikely turn of events on the final day, Staunton will take one of the nine places available for the Second Stage, played at four venues across southern Spain in November.

He is likely to be joined there by O’Keefe, who carded a round of 68 to finish day three in second place on five under par, three shots ahead of England’s George Thacker (67) in third.

The cut mark fell on nine over par, meaning a total of 28 players are still in with a chance of progressing to the Second Stage.

The top nine and ties from the Roxburghe will qualify for the Second Stage, which takes place from November 7-10 at Campo de Golf El Saler, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, El Valle Golf Resort and Lumine Golf & Beach Club.

Approximately 310 players will line up at those four venues, with around 80 progressing through to the Final Stage at PGA Catalunya Resort – part of The European Tour Properties Network – from November 24-29.
