Despite carding a round of 73, Jurgen Maurer leads The European Tour Qualifying School First Stage Section A at Golfclub Schloss Ebreichsdorf, in his native Austria.
Heavy overnight rain made for treacherous playing conditions and forced officials to reduce the course to a par 69, with only ten players in the 58-man field managing to break par.
Maurer was one of several players who struggled to adapt to the conditions, with overnight leader Krister Eriksson posting a round of 76 which moved him back to tied fourth place on seven under par.
That is two strokes off the lead held by Maurer, who is in prime position to claim one of at least 15 places available for November’s Second Stage.
French amateur Edouard Espana and Germany’s Maximilian Tschinke both signed for superb rounds of 68 to end day three on eight under par, with another amateur, Ondrej Lieser, joining Eriksson in a share of fourth place after a round of 70.
A total of 36 players progressed to the fourth round, with the cut falling on four over par.
