FootJoy, the #1 Shoe & Glove in Golf, claimed yet another Major Championship victory, as brand ambassador Jiyai Shin produced one of the finest performances of her illustrious career when she defied atrocious weather to close with a battling one over par 73 to claim a commanding nine shot victory in the 2012 Ricoh Women’s British Open at a wet and windswept Royal Liverpool Golf Club. It was a performance which produced the biggest margin of victory since the Ricoh Women’s British Open became a Major back in 2001 and it extended Asian golf’s current domination of the women’s professional game.
Shin arrived on Merseyside fresh from a play-off win at last week’s Kingsmill Championship in Virginia and she maintained that sort of sparkling form with rounds of 71, 64, 71 and 73 for a nine under par total of 279 and a nine shot victory. This incredible win in the final major of the year boosted the South Korean up 3 places in the Official World Golf Rankings, to move into the top ten in the world.
In dreadful conditions Shin trusted the consistent performance, comfort and style of the Women’s FJ DryJoys MyJoys, which offered unrivalled resistance to the extreme conditions. The South Korean put further trust in FtJ by getting a firm grip of the field with the excellent feel and fit of the FJ Women’s StaSof glove which excelled in the wet conditions.
“It was very pleasing to see Jiyai Shin trusting our equipment to win so comprehensively in the immense pressure of a Major Championship and she fully deserves her place in the top ten in the world,” commented Russell Lawes, European Marketing Manager – FootJoy. “Elsewhere on the European Tour we once again dominated the shoe and glove counts at the BMW Italian Open, with 62% of the field putting their trust in FootJoy shoes and 41% opting for the extreme fit and performance of the FootJoy glove family. This is extremely pleasing to see and we hope this trend continues with the best players in the world committing to FootJoy equipment”.
Whether it is the all-round excellence of the FJ ICON, the Xtreme Platform Stability of the all-new XPS-1, the reliability and consistent performance of DryJoys Tour or the sports performance of the FJ Sport, FootJoy remains the overwhelming favourite for golfers of all abilities around the world.
