Ross Fisher leads the Portugal Masters by 3 shots at the half way point, but how has he built his score? Well considering the length Ross hits the ball you would expect him to score heavily on the Par 5 holes, and he has indeed done just that. His Genworth Par 5 Scoring statistic is 4.17, made up of 1 eagle, 3 birdies and 2 pars. Only Jbe Kruger has gone better on the longest holes, scoring a 4.00 average.
It is the Par 4 holes where Ross has really excelled up to this point. Leading the field, his Genworth Par 4 Scoring statistic is a superb 3.68, made up of 8 birdies, 13 pars and only 1 bogey. Bernd Wiesberger follows close behind with a 3.77 average.
It is the Par 3 holes where Ross may need to improve if he is to lead out a wire to wire victory this week. His Genworth Par 3 Scoring statistic is surprisingly poor so far at 3.25. A number of players are heading the way with a 2.75 average on the Par 3 holes, including Fredrik Andersson Hed and the in-form Danny Willet.
Miguel Angel Jiménez, Fredrik Andersson Hed, Padraig Harrington and the leader Ross Fisher are all holing putts for fun, but it is Stephen Gallacher that stands out from the crowd in terms of consistency. He leads the way in the Genworth Greens in Regulation statistic with 91.7%. With a 5th place finish last week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the most consistent of long games here, he may well be up there at the end.
Continuing with our “how the field perform as a whole” theme this week, the following table displays the Genworth Statistics field data for each hole on the Oceânico Victoria Course, over the first two rounds. Pay special attention to the Stroke Index which ranks the holes from hardest (1) to easiest (18) - something handicap golfers can relate to.
