The tenth annual European Tour Properties Invitational Tournament took place at Terre Blanche Hotel Spa Golf Resort in the south of France as guests from the network of 11 member venues convened to compete in a 36-hole challenge.
The popular event, hosted by European Tour Properties every year but one since 2002, produced two days of enjoyable competition and off-course entertainment over the outstanding Château and Riou courses at Terre Blanche.
For the fourth time since the inception of the tournament, the best performing member-venue at the Invitational was Golf & Country Club Fleesensee in Germany, led by Managing Director Thomas Döbber-Rüther.
Attendees at the Invitational at Terre Blanche were also able to witness the first European Tour Performance Institute. Jean-Jacques Rivet, the world renowned expert on sports biomechanics, gave the delegates a conducted tour and demonstration of the state-of-the-art facility where he is based.
During the course of 2012, the network of European Tour Properties was augmented by the addition of Golf Club St. Leon-Rot in Germany and The Dutch in Holland, both joining the family of Tour Destinations.
Soon after those important announcements, the two venues were celebrating the exciting news that St. Leon-Rot would host the 2015 Solheim Cup match while The Dutch has signed a new agreement to stage the KLM Open on The European Tour International Schedule from 2016-2018. In addition, Terre Blanche, now a Leading Hotel of the World, staged the French Riviera Masters, part of the European Senior Tour.
The European Tour Properties Invitational was a precursor to the annual International Golf Travel Market, which was held at Vilamoura in Portugal – in close proximity to the inaugural venue for the Invitational of Quinta do Lago in 2002.
The International Golf Travel Market is the premier event for the golf travel industry. Over 600 golf tourism suppliers join 350 buyers and 100 international media for four days of pre-scheduled appointments, networking opportunities and industry updates.
David MacLaren, The European Tour Director of Property and Venue Development, said: “It’s been an exciting year for European Tour Properties and we have been delighted to see so many of our member-venues at both the Invitational and also at the extremely successful International Golf Travel Market where we were able to introduce our world-class venues to many new Golf Suppliers and Tour Operators.”
Thomas Döbber-Rüther, Managing Director of Golf and Country Club Fleesensee, added: ”The Invitational at Terre Blanche was absolutely fantastic! We had a great time and enjoyed an outstanding hotel with wonderful golf courses. Thank you very much Terre Blanche for this perfectly organised event. And of course, we are entirely happy to be the best performing venue!”
