Sweet Caroline....

It’s fair to say that she does have ‘previous’ in terms of popping up unexpectedly in the back row of press conferences as Novak Djokavic will testify, so it was little surprise that Caroline Wozniacki could not resist the chance to ‘feature’ in boyfriend Rory McIlroy’s appearance in front of the fourth estate after his first round on the Earth course.
After the World Number One had answered some posers about his excellent opening 66 which put him only one shot adrift of leader Luke Donald, young Miss W took the chance to step in. How did it go? Well something like this.
Q. CAROLINE WOZNIACKI:  You obviously have unbelievable support this week.
RORY McILROY:  That's correct.  I've got my parents here … (Laughter).
Q. CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: So, you know, if you win this week, am I going to get a really nice Christmas present?
RORY McILROY: Have you not already got a lot of nice presents?
Q. CAROLINE WOZNIACKI:  You know, Christmas is coming up, so
RORY McILROY:  I know, I have been looking. But it won't take winning this week to buy you a nice present.  I think you'll get a nice present anyway.
Q.  CAROLINE WOZNIACKI:  Well, that must be because I'm an unbelievable cheerleader.
RORY McILROY:  You're a better tennis player.  (Laughter).
Definitely beats the usual birdies and bogeys chat……!!

Dolphin delight for player families

While The European Tour’s elite put the final touches to their preparations for the season’s finale, some of the players’ wives and families were treated to a private show at the Atlantis, The Palm’s Dolphin Experience. The lucky participants were treated to an unforgettable experience as they got up close and personal with the world’s friendliest mammals.

Dave’s extra show is just the trick….

One of the most entertaining aspects of the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai is the show put on by Dave Edwards, one of golf’s leading trick shot experts. Dave is a regular on Tour ranges around the world, entertaining the golfing public with his brilliant, and at times scary, array of shots and impressions of many of the world’s leading players. Having arrived in Dubai a few days before his tournament appearances begin on Thursday, Dave rather kindly offered to visit the GEMS Wellington School in Dubai to put on a show for the pupils and teachers. The School is a key partner to the tournament, with 150 of the pupils volunteering to help the smooth running of the event. Shot Dave!

Life’s a Beach!

The DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, officially got underway on Tuesday with the Rolex Pro-Am on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, which was finished off in true style at the traditional beach party at the tournament’s Official Resort, the magnificent Atlantis, The Palm. An informal gathering for European Tour players and their families, as well as Tour sponsors, promoters and Pro-Am guests, the Championship Beach Party was the perfect way to finish a hugely successful day. Among the star guests were all 12 of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup Team, who joined the majority of the 45 other players in this week’s field to enjoy the evening in a truly stunning setting. Also among the VIP guests was Mr Mohammed Sharaf (pictured above with World Number One Rory McIlroy and European Tour Chief Executive George O’Grady), the CEO of this week’s title sponsor DP World.
