With each player at the Volvo Golf Champions having tasted victory on the European Tour in 2012, it took a special performance to take the title at the Durban Country Club. Louis Oosthuizen produced that performance, with a come-from-behind display to earn victory in his native South Africa. This was Oosthuizen’s second official event trusting the new 2013 Pro V1x prototype golf ball, and his victory marks the fifth by Titleist golf ball loyalists since the seeding process of the new 2013 Pro V1 or Pro V1x prototype golf balls began late last year. Oosthuizen joins the illustrious company of Luke Donald (Pro V1x), Adam Scott (Pro V1), Hiroyuki Fujita (Pro V1) and Angel Cabrera (Pro V1x) as a Titleist golf ball loyalist to enter the winners circle with the new prototype golf balls.

Oosthuizen came from five shots behind at the start of the final round to claim victory by one shot in South Africa, firing a joint lowest final round of 6-under par, 66. The round included six birdies in his first 11 holes, helping him to post a 16-under par, 272 victory total. The win marked Oosthuizen’s sixth career European Tour title and seventh top-10 finish in his last eight starts, elevating him to fourth place in the Official World Golf Rankings. As well as being the choice of the champion, Titleist was also the most played golf ball at the event, with 17 of the 33 players relying upon the unrivalled precision and quality of the Pro V1 franchise, more than twice the nearest competitors with seven.

At the first full-field event of the 2013 PGA Tour season, the Sony Open in Hawaii, Titleist was the overwhelming choice of golf ball amongst the competitors, with 103 of the 144 players putting their trust in the #1 Ball in Golf, more than six times the nearest competitor with 15. Furthermore, Titleist equipment topped the counts for approach, sand and lob wedges, and putters. This supports the impressive counts from last weeks’ Hyundai Tournament of Champions on the PGA Tour, where Titleist emerged as the overwhelming favourite across every major equipment category; golf balls, drivers, fairways, hybrids, iron sets, wedges, and putters.

A sixth career European Tour title for Titleist golf ball loyalist Louis Oosthuizen gives Titleist a winning start to 2013, following an emphatic 2012 where Titleist golf balls amassed an impressive 190 wins across worldwide professional tours. This compares to 25 for the nearest competitor, and proves that the world’s best players continue to put their trust in the performance excellence of Titleist to deliver success.
