The European Tour heads to the Middle East for the start of the Desert Swing and first port of call is Abu Dhabi for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. It is the first appearance of the year for the likes of World Number One Rory McIlroy and 14-time Major winner Tiger Woods. European Tour Weekly will be on the range to find out the thoughts of the players who are all hoping for success in the desert.
ETW caught up with last year’s winner Robert Rock who held off the challenge from Tiger Woods, Rory McIIroy and Graeme McDowell to claim a sensational victory. It was without doubt the biggest win of Rock’s career and he told ETW about the week and his hopes ahead of the defence of his title.
Whilst in Durban European Tour Weekly met up with one of the home favourites, Ernie Els. Els spoke to ETW about his first Major victory in a decade when he won the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes last July, just edging out Adam Scott to claim the Claret Jug.
Each year European Tour Weekly likes to highlight one of the newcomers on The European Tour. In 2013, we shall follow the fortunes of Andreas Hartø. The 24 year-old Dane gained his playing rights on The European Tour via the Challenge Tour last year after finishing the season third in the rankings. ETW visited Andreas at his home in Copenhagen prior to jetting off to Abu Dhabi.
Together with all of the latest news and statistics from the Tour, this completes another edition of European Tour Weekly.
