Malaysian amateur Gavin Green ()
Six Malaysian amateurs have been selected to compete in the Maybank Malaysian Open from March 21-24.
Gavin Kyle Green, Arie Ahmad Fauzi, Low Khai Jei, Abel Tham, Mohammad Afif Mohd Radzi and Solomon Emilio Rosidin will tee it up at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club for the US$2.75million event, which is co-sanctioned between The European Tour and the Asian Tour.
Green, 20, was the youngest player to compete in an Asia Tour event when he played in the Iskandar Johor Open aged 13 and is currently studying for a business degree at the University of New Mexico in America.
Muhammad Arie Arawan Ahmad Fauzi, winner of the 2008 Malaysian Amateur StrokePlay Championship, is also at college in the United States, while 16 year old
Low Khai Jei, Abel Tham, Afif Mohd Radzi and Solomon Emilio Rosidin are all up and coming talents.
They will join a star-studded field, which includes former World Number One Luke Donald, 2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel, three-time Major Champion Padraig Harrington and former winner Matteo Manassero.
John Eu, CEO of GlobalOne, the tournament promoter, said: “These amateurs are strengthening their skills and confidence every time they are given the opportunity to be part of a major golf event such as Maybank Malaysian Open, where they are sharing the field with great professionals. We are glad that this avenue is made available to them”.
