Golf & Country Club Fleesensee, an exceptional golf venue resort situated less than 90 minutes from the German capital city of Berlin, has been announced today as the sixth European Tour Destination, part of the European Tour’s exclusive network of world class golfing facilities.
The 500 hectare site, which boasts no fewer than five courses and four hotels, had been part of The European Tour’s portfolio of Tour Courses since 2000 but will now benefit from the additional kudos and global recognition which comes from joining the expanding Destinations portfolio, which already incorporates Le Golf National and Terre Blanche in France, London Golf Club in England, The Dutch in Holland and another German venue, Golf Club St.Leon-Rot.
Land Fleesensee, the leisure resort within which the golf club is located, is serviced by a choice of four hotels and a wide range of other sporting activities numbering around 40 in total while the stunning Golf Academy, providing extensive practice and coaching facilities, is one of the largest in Europe and is centred around a vast, circular driving range.
The facility, one of the most well-known and popular golf and leisure complexes in Northern Germany, has been in existence for twelve years, since the vast, sweeping expanse of terrain in the idyllic Mecklenburg Lake district was earmarked as the potential site for Golf & Country Club Fleesensee and its attached courses and hotels.
The vast tract of land was transformed into 72 holes of challenging golf, with three 18-hole courses and two nine-hole lay-outs designed by European Golf Design, a joint venture company of The European Tour. Each course was built to offer different challenges and to suit differing abilities, from novice golfer to tournament player, with the courses being sympathetically developed to blend with their surroundings whilst enhancing existing natural habitats and increasing the variety of new habitats. Land Fleesensee provides a unique golf, wellness and holiday experience within the endless fields, sparkling lakes and inviting forests of the unique nature of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Six partners in travel, sports and leisure have merged their strength and ideas, offering a wide variety of sporting activities, health, fitness and relaxation. Teeing off on the golf course, jogging by the lake, tennis, sailing, surfing, riding, swimming, Land Fleesensee is an experience full of action, fun and nature.
The Tui Golf Course, set in the heart of the resort and the designated official European Tour Course, offers a peaceful yet surprisingly challenging test with numerous water hazards, bunkers and fast greens. This course played host to a European Senior Tour event in 2000 and since 2007 has been a regular and successful host of a First Stage European Tour Qualifying School event, with up to 100 hopefuls visiting the venue annually seeking qualification to play on The European Tour. The championship Schloss Course, a par 72 lay-out like the Tui course, has been rated as one of the Top Three in Germany by Golf Magazine and is characterised by large, undulating greens and rolling fairways.
The shortest of the three 18-hole courses is the Axel Lange Generali Platz, with a par of 67 while there are two nine-hole courses, the Tetra Pak course and the Land Fleesensee Platz which are generally for beginners.
Land Fleesensee offers a variety of adventures and entertainment, as well as an up close and personal ecological and natural experience. A broad range of event offers are included in the health spa and wellbeing area, which is spread over 500 hectares.
Managing Director Thomas Döbber-Rüther said: “We are delighted and honoured to become part of the distinguished network of European Tour Destinations. We have enjoyed our designation as a European Tour Course for several years, but we fully believe that in order to expand our brand internationally, it is important to become a Tour Destination.
“We are very proud of the leisure and golf facilities and perhaps the largest Golf Academy in Europe on our doorstep, and we see this agreement with The European Tour as a wonderful opportunity to develop the name and reputation of Fleesensee.”
Announcing the signing of the new agreement today, David MacLaren, The European Tour’s Director of Property and Venue Development, said: “Our relationship with Fleesensee is one of the longest within our venue network and we have together travelled a journey which has resulted in Land Fleesensee becoming a successful and multi-faceted resort. The Destination brand will enable us to help promote Fleesensee on an international stage and help attract golfers from many different countries to a truly unique leisure venue.”
