Glorious playing conditions for Round 4 of the BMW PGA Championship produced 38 sub-par rounds and a field average score of 71.14. Matteo Manassero emerged as the eventual winner from a three man play-off against Simon Khan and Marc Warren, with Alejandro Cañizares and Miguel Angel Jiménez finishing one shot back. We analyse their tournament performances plus we round up the final Genworth Statistics leaders.

Matteo MANASSERO -10

Matteo Manassero emerged victorious from a three man play-off to win the European Tour’s flagship event (his fourth tour title to date). Looking at his Genworth Tournament Statistics, the 20 year old Italian maestro actually ranked quite low for Driving Accuracy (a stat he usually excels in), but with some superb approach play, he managed to rank 4th for Greens in Regulation and 1st for Par 3 Scoring, plus he dropped the fewest shots of all the players in the field. Matteo looks to be a multiple major champion in the making.

Simon KHAN -10

Simon Khan fired a bogey free final round of 66 (the low round of the day) to make it into the playoff, but he just missed out on his second BMW PGA Championship to the rising Italian star in extra time. Looking at his Genworth Tournament Statistics, Simon’s long game seemed to be the most accurate of all the players this week, ranking 8th for Driving Accuracy and 1st for Greens in Regulation (plus he also ranked 7th for Par 5’s in 2). It was a great ball striking display.

Marc WARREN -10

Marc Warren converted one eagle and four birdies against three bogeys on his way to a final round 69 to make it into the play-off, but he too came up short in extra time. Looking at his Genworth Tournament Statistics, the 32 year old golfer from Scotland seemed to have all areas of his game under control which enabled him to rank high in most categories and score well across the different hole types (being the Par 3’s / Par 4’s / Par 5’s). Marc only seemed to change his game plan for the play-off, which he probably needed to do if he was to try and take the title.

Alejandro CAÑIZARES -9

Alejandro Cañizares had a chance to make the playoff on the final green but finished one shot back in the end. Looking at his Genworth Tournament Statistics, the 30 year old Spanish golfer was pretty steady from tee to green, but he really excelled with the short stick. He ranked 2nd for Putts per GIR, 5th for Putts per Round and 3rd for 1 Putts per Round, plus he also ranked 1st for Par 4 Scoring with a 4.00 average. Overall it was a great week’s work.

Miguel Angel JIMÉNEZ -9

2008 winner Miguel Angel Jiménez showed his class this week over the Wentworth course in only his second event of the year, after several months off from a broken leg (in a skiing accident). The 49 year old 19 time European Tour winner fired a glorious final round 67 for tied fourth (which included a birdie eagle finish). His all round game looked solid but a special mention should be given to Miguel Angel’s performance from the greenside bunkers, where he was 8/8 for the Genworth Sand Saves Statistic.
