Peter Hedblom charged up the ISPS Handa Wales Open leaderboard as he embarked upon a birdie-laden third round at The Celtic Manor Resort.
Birdies on one, six and nine were complemented by gains at the 13th and 14th to leave the Swede five under par for the day.
He was, therefore, three under overall, just two shots adrift of overnight leader Liam Bond, who was due to tee off at 1:19pm.
Also impressing was England’s Matthew Nixon, who had moved to two under on the back of three birdies in his opening seven holes.
Earlier, Magnus A. Carlsson showed what was possible when striking a third round 68
The Swede, who only just made the cut yesterday having ended four over par, caught fire on the back nine when hitting three successive birdies on 14, 15 and 16.
He parred in to ensure that, following a gain and a bogey on the front, he ended one over par overall.
Australia’s Scott Arnold and England’s Steve Benson also impressed when producing 69s to end two over for the tournament.
