The 70°OPEN D’ITALIA LINDT was launched at the Palace Comune di Torino in Turin this afternoon as tournament officials and representatives from title sponsor Lindt announced a prestigious starting field for Italy’s national open championship.

The Italian duo of Matteo Manassero and Francesco Molinari will headline the home challenge at Circolo Golf Torino next week, along with defending champion Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño, Ryder Cup star Nicolas Colsaerts and Major Champions David Duval, Retief Goosen and José María Olazábal.

Those star names are among 75 European Tour chamions in the field, many of whom will feature in the Pro-Am Mario Mele & Partners which will be played on September 18.

Molinari was thrilled by the news of Lindt becoming the title sponsor of the event, and cannot wait to return to Circolo Golf Torino and a venue that brings back many fond memories of his home town.

“Great news for the Italian Open to have such an important sponsor as Lindt, hopefully it will be an amazing week,” said Molinari. “Although Lindt could be a dangerous sponsor for the players because we might eat too much chocolate!

“It’s going to be a special week for to be playing at home. I’ve not played there for a long time and I am really looking forward to seeing a lot of people I grew up with. It’s a great golf course  - let’s see what players think about it but I am sure they will love it.”
