American John Hahn is well on course to progress through the First Qualifying Stage of the European Tour School after extending his lead at Golf and Country Club Fleesensee in Germany, much to the delight of his German father.

Hahn is one of 21 Americans competing across the two venues, the other being Wychwood Park  in England, hosting this week’s First Qualifying  Stage Section B, but clearly feels at home in the country of his parent’s birth.

Indeed his father his following him every step of the way at G&CC Fleesensee, a European Tour Destination, and would enjoyed his five birdies en route to a third round 68 which took him to 16 under par 200 and four clear of Danish amateur Mads Soegaard with another amateur, Germany’s Sebastian Schwind a further shot back.

The top 24 and ties from Fleesensee will progress to the Second Qualifying Stage across Spain in November and Germany’s Florian Jahn did his prospects of making the grade no harm with a best of the day 65 to move into a share of 12th place.

At Wychwood Park, Ireland’s Ruaidhri McGhee is comfortably out in front with a five stroke lead after a one under par 71 took him to 211, and at five under is the only player in red figures after a tough third round.

American Ted Smith, the only player to break 70, is his nearest challenger after a 68 with 2012 Amateur Champion Alan Dunbar of Northern Ireland a further shot back alongside another American, George Cunningham.

The leading 22 players and ties after tomorrow’s final round will continue onto the Second Qualifying Stage in November.
