Pelle Edberg bounced back from the disappointment of narrowly missing out on the European Challenge Tour’s season finale and automatic exemption to The European Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage as the Swede took the first round lead at one of the four Second Stage venues in Campo de Golf El Saler.

Edberg was knocked out of the top 45 which qualified for this week’s Dubai Festival City Challenge Tour Grand Final hosted by Al Badia Golf Club in the penultimate event of the season in Oman last week, therefore losing out on exemption for next week’s six-round Final Stage at PGA Catalunya Resort.

But he put that late disappointment behind him as he carded a six under par 66 in Valencia to take a one-shot lead over Italy’s Niccolo Quintarelli.

Promising South African Brandon Stone shared the overnight lead at Las Colinas Golf and Country Club on seven under par, alongside Englishman James Heath and Guillaume Cambis of France.

Chris Hanson of England and Austrian Lukas Nemecz share the lead at Lumine Golf and Beach Club after both signing for seven under par rounds of 64, while Sweden’s Pontus Widegren leads the way in Valle Romano thanks to a seven under par round of 64.
