Thongchai Jaidee admitted Europe had been the better side on day one of the EURASIA CUP presented by DRB-HICOM after seeing his Asia side lose the fourballs 5-0.
Jaidee and fellow Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat went down 2 and 1 to opposing captain Miguel Angel Jiménez and Pablo Larrazábal, and that set the tone for a session dominated by the Europeans.
“I would say actually Europe were very strong today,” said Jaidee. “We played with Miguel the first match - I played well, about 8 under par today, but he played about 11 under.
“We will try again tomorrow and we change our game plan tomorrow, we change all the people, all the players different tomorrow except myself.
“We will work really hard tomorrow and have good planning and also change the players and hope the result will be different.
“I don't it will be easy tomorrow, but we put something together to get some points back.”
Jiménez was also quick to praise his players, but warned them against complacency in Friday’s foursomes.
“You can't get anything better than that really,” said Jiménez. “100 per cent affectivity is very difficult. We won all the matches and you are expecting the best of the team, and you are expecting the best of your players and the best points you can and if you can finish five nil, you can't do any better.
“Normally any time we play a team, it's always very close. We don't know what's going to happen tomorrow but you always are expecting of the team and the players.
The European Tour’s oldest winner was also delighted with his own performance.
“I don't think anybody made any lower than me,” he added.
“I make the official three birdies and two eagles, and probably we can make today ten under par; I would be leading the tournament in stroke play.
“Experience is very important. This is my 26th year on Tour and I've played on a lot of other Cups and teams, but the main thing is patience. That's the thing, you have to keep going and then it happens.
“I try to be as relaxed as possible. I know that's important for me, but I don't know how to pay much attention, how stressed they are or not.
“They look very fine on the golf course but it's tough when you have a captain that is making a birdie and an eagle overall, it's tough to beat that, and they played very well, too. But I think when you play well, they make also a lot of birdies.”
