Produced the performance of his life to capture the 2001 PGA Championship, edging out Angel Cabrera and Nick Faldo, before remarking: ‘I think my victory is a testament to the strength and depth of The European Tour.’ Born in Bolton, Lancashire, but raised in Edinburgh. Won the English Amateur Championship in 1982 but, after many years living in Scotland, was eventually given status as a Scot.
