Enjoyed a consistent 2008, with three top ten finishes including tied eighth at the Masters Tournament and tied seventh at the US PGA Championship, and he also won his first US PGA Tour title at the Zurich Classic. One of the most exciting talents to emerge from Argentina in recent years, he took the world by storm in the summer of 2007 when, just seven days after coming agonisingly close to winning the greatest prize of all, The Open Championship at Carnoustie, he claimed an impressive three-stroke victory in The Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe. In the space of just two weeks, he climbed from 114th to 29th in the Official World Golf Ranking. No relation to his famous countryman, Eduardo, although SMG International SA, Eduardo’s management company, also manage him. Took up the game at the age of eight and is coached by his uncle, Miguel Romero. Was forced to give up his favourite hobby of mountain-biking when he turned professional, as it was deemed to be too dangerous a pastime.
