Martin Kaymer became the tenth and final qualifier for The European Ryder Cup team bound for Chicago and immediately declared he was “inspired” to get his game ready.

Kaymer opted not to play in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles even though his was the only place in jeopardy but when Nicolas Colsaerts came short in his quest to finish in the top two, finishing tied 19th, his place was assured.

His inclusion in the team means that every one of the ten automatic qualifiers will have previous Ryder Cup experience when they take on the United States at Medinah Country Club from September 28-30.

“I am obviously very happy to be in the Team,” he said. “A little relieved, yes, but overall it is just a great feeling to be in José Maria’s Ryder Cup Team.

“I have been struggling with my game for the last few months but since the US PGA I have made a lot of progress with my coach (Gunther Kessler) and had some really good sessions. I am starting to feel confident with what I am doing again, my fade is coming back and the ball striking is getting better and better.

“I also have a few weeks to get ready and I am playing the KLM Open and the BMW Italian Open so I will be able to play competitively before going to Chicago and that is important because that is the next step – to go out and play these tournaments and play well.

“I believe I can do that and the most important thing for me now is continuing  the good work I have been doing since the PGA so that I can prepare to play my best golf over three days at the end of September and then for the rest of the season after that.”

Kaymer was part of the victorious Ryder Cup team at The Celtic Manor Resort, winning two and halving one of the four matches he played and the former World Number One and US PGA Champion is looking ahead to what is sure to be another enthralling contest.

“You can feel the build-up to The Ryder Cup, everyone is talking about it now, and that is inspiring me to work harder than ever to get ready.

 “I feel very motivated now. The best way I can help the Team is to get my own game back to a level where I am happy and I really feel I can do that. I am so excited about getting out to Holland and Italy before having a week off before Chicago.

“Once you have played one Ryder Cup you never want to miss another one and to go to America and play for José María Olazábal’s Team is going to be an amazing experience. I really feel inspired to get my game ready and to work as hard as I have to be ready.”
