Their supporters may have been starved of an actual trophy for a number of years but Paul Lawrie put that right for the fans of his hometown Aberdeen FC on Saturday when he paraded The Ryder Cup at Pittodrie.
Lawrie is a lifelong fan of the Dons and took the opportunity to show off the trophy he helped Europe win in such dramatic fashion at Medinah last September at half-time during Saturday’s Scottish Premier League encounter with St Mirren.
The 44 year old Scot – an eight time winner on The European Tour – walked the entire perimeter of the pitch during the interval allowing fans to take pictures of the gleaming golden trophy – an occasion which proved the highlight of the day for many as the match itself finished 0-0.
Before the kick-off Lawrie, accompanied by his wife Marian, took the trophy on a tour of the hospitality suites at the stadium and also met briefly with Aberdeen manager Craig Brown and his assistant Archie Knox.
