Senior Tour Order of Merit

Became the all-time Senior Major Championship winner with ten victories to his name after securing his third Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex title in 2017. Completed a record-breaking wire-to-wire victory in the 2014 Senior Open Championship, winning by a staggering 13 shots from Colin Montgomerie at Royal Porthcawl in Wales. Narrowly missed out in the same event the previous year at Royal Birkdale, losing to American Mark Wiebe in a play-off. It was also play-off agony which cost him victory in his homeland in 2014, where Paul Wesselingh came out on top after a three way shoot-out at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open. Won the Money List on the US Champions Tour in 2015 for a seventh time in eight seasons, and also won the Charles Schwab Cup for a third time in 2015. Has been a dominant force on the senior circuit and achieved a magnificent double in 2010 when he won back-to-back Senior Major Championships, first the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie in Scotland, and then the U.S. Senior Open at Sahalee in Washington State a week later. In doing so he became the first player to win consecutive Senior Majors since Tom Watson in 2003 and the first player from Continental Europe to win the U.S. Senior Open. One of the big five of European golf during the 1980s, has enjoyed a glittering career as one of the most remarkably consistent, resilient and admired golfers the world over. Received worldwide acclaim - and an Honorary OBE - for his superb organisation and inspirational captaincy of Europe’s Ryder Cup team on their way to a record 18½-9½ victory over the United States at Oakland Hills Country Club in 2004. Represented Europe as a player on ten occasions, just one short of Sir Nick Faldo’s record. Has been in the upper echelons of the game for more than 20 years - the highlights being his two victories in the Masters Tournament at Augusta National in 1985 and 1993. An Honorary Member of the European Tour, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2016 was also inducted into the German Sports Hall of Fame.More
