Remembered fondly for the emotional scenes which greeted his triumph at Walton Heath in 1989 when he defied the pain of spondylitis – a form of arthritis – to capture The European Open. Went on to broaden his horizons away from tournament golf to include course design, player management and media work, before launching his comeback on the European Senior Tour in 2007, when his highest finish was a tie for tenth at the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open en route to finishing 48th in the Order of Merit. Improved on that in 2008 after finishing tied sixth in The De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship and seventh in the Scottish Seniors Open as he ended the season in 35th position. Had another consistent year in 2009, four top 20 finishes – the highlight being tied fourth at the Benahavis Senior Masters. Became eligible through his position on the All-Time Career Money List.
