Now one of the most popular figures on the Senior Tour, the Italian’s legacy inspired with the current success of the Molinari brothers and Matteo Manassero. Showed glimpses of his old form in 2011 with top ten finishes in the Mauritius Commercial Bank Open and the Benahavis Senior Masters. Joined the Senior Tour at the beginning of 2007 and promptly won on his third start at the AIB Irish Seniors Open, in association with Greenstar and Fáilte Ireland. Came close to adding a second title at the European Senior Masters at Woburn Golf Club, where his 22 year old daughter Chiara caddied for him for the first time, but was defeated by England's Carl Mason in a play-off. But he did win the final event on the schedule, the Kingdom of Bahrain Trophy - Senior Tour Championship, and was subsequently handed the Rookie of the Year award in recognition of a fine maiden season on the Senior Tour in which he finished second in the Order of Merit. Graduated through the Challenge Tour in 1989, then went onto win five times on The European Tour, the highlight being the 1996 PGA Championship at Wentworth Club. Remembered for the fluffed chip followed by the 60 foot putt at the 18th at St Andrews to force a play-off with John Daly in the 1995 Open Championship, which he subsequently lost, and also for his crucial singles win by 4 and 2 over Tiger Woods in The 1997 Ryder Cup at Valderrama to help Europe win.
