Biography

Succeeded Mark James as Chairman of The European Tour's Tournament Committee in December 2003. Lost his card for the first time in 2004 but bounced back in 2005 with three top tens to regain full playing privileges. Came from ten shots back to claim his maiden title, winning the European Masters with a final round of 60 in 1992. Ended an eight year wait to claim his second European Tour title when he won the 2000 Moroccan Open by four shots in Marrakech. As a youngster, he vowed to try harder than ever after watching the epic Nicklaus-Watson duel for the 1977 Open Championship at the Westin Turnberry Resort. Worked briefly in a City of London bank after leaving school at 16 and also worked as a barman and labourer before turning professional at 22. Loves Arsenal and horse racing and in 2005 turned his hand to management as he took over the running of his son’s football team.
