Will turn professional before joining the Senior Tour upon turning 50 in March 2011 following a long amateur career in Ireland. Gained his card courtesy of finishing second at Qualifying School on the Algarve, with a flawless final round 66 that included holing his 140 yard approach shot on the eighth for par after hitting his initial tee shot out of bounds. His Qualifying School success, with brother David on the bag, meant he could fulfil his dream of joining the paid ranks having been encourage by his friend and practice partner Eamonn Darcy, the former Ryder Cup player and Senior Tour stalwart. Becomes the second amateur from The European Club to make it to the Senior Tour, following in the footsteps of Harry McKinney, who has since regained his amateur status. His previous biggest claim to fame was that he took Padraig Harrington to the 15th in the quarter-finals of the 1994 Irish Amateur Close Championship at Portmarnock. Won the Irish Mid-Amateur title in 2008 and 2010 at his home club.
