Improved on his 15th place finish in 2014 to end the year in the top ten of the Senior Tour Order of Merit. Runner up to fellow Scot Colin Montgomerie at Woburn in the 2015 Travis Perkins Masters and finished tied third in the Swiss Seniors Open. One of the Senior Tour’s most consistent performers, recorded four top ten finishes in 2012, but narrowly missed on on finishing inside the top 20 on the Order of Merit for the sixth consecutive season, ending the year in 22nd position. His best performance was a share of fifth position in the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters. Was in contention throughout the 2010 Handa Irish Senior Open presented by Fáilte Ireland but had to settle for finishing runner up – his fourth second place on the Senior Tour. Highlight of his 2009 season arguably came in the US Senior PGA Championship which he led by two strokes at the halfway mark, eventually finishing a respectable tied 37th at Canterbury Golf Club in Ohio. Was the subject of Guardian golf correspondent Lawrence Donegan’s entertaining travelogue and golf book ‘Four Iron in the Soul’ in 1996. Coincidentally, it turned out to be his best season on The European Tour as he finished runner up to Retief Goosen in the Slaley Hall Northumberland Challenge and then third behind Jesper Parnevik in the Trophée Lancôme, en route to 42nd place on that year’s Money List. The following year he lost his card, thereby ending a 20 year unbroken run on the Tour. Started a new chapter in his own career with a share of sixth place on his European Senior Tour debut at the 2007 DGM Barbados Open, and was runner-up twice during this rookie season en route to finishing sixth in the money list.
