A regular on The European Tour in the 1970s, the Northern Irishman joined the European Senior Tour in 1995 and is a double winner on the circuit. Produced one of the finest stories of the 2003 season when he claimed his first victory for five years at the Bovis Lend Lease European Senior Masters at Woburn. Arrived at the tournament outside the top 50 on the Order of Merit but finished two shots ahead of Nick Job and Bill Longmuir to win. Protected his playing privileges until well past his 60th birthday and also helped him finish inside the top 25 on the Order of Merit for the first time since 1998. Could not quite reproduce similar fireworks in 2004 but five top 20 finishes helped him to 41st on the Order of Merit. Best performance on The European Tour was a share of sixth place at the 1973 Martini International at Barnton. He also won the Ulster Professional Match Play Championship on two occasions and in 1975 finished a highly creditable 12th behind Tom Watson in The Open Championship at Carnoustie.
