Biography

The teaching professional at Hazelmere Golf Club closed with the joint lowest round of the final day of the 2013 Qualifying School Final to take the fifth card and earn a debut campaign on the European Senior Tour. Was helped out by Mark Forrest, the head pro at Belmont Golf Course, in Hazelmere, who stayed on to caddie for Jonas after narrowly missing the cut at the Qualifying School First Stage. Made the cut on his debut in the Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex, eventually finishing in a tie for 55th place at Turnberry. Was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but now lives in Vancouver, Canada with his wife Patty, who is a three-time winner of the PGA of British Columbia Women’s Championship. Won two titles on the PGA Tour of Canada and two on the PGA Tour of Latin America. Also runs the Phil Jonas Golf Academy and was recognised for his coaching after collecting the 2012 PGA of British Columbia’s Teacher of the Year Award.
