Northern Ireland's Eddie Polland takes a commanding five-shot lead into the final round of the Lawrence Batley Seniors at Huddersfield GC tomorrow (Saturday) as he chases his first Seniors Tour title.
Twice a bridesmaid but never the bride, Polland was twice beaten in play-offs last year but is poised to finally make it to the altar after a second successive 66 took him to ten under par. The former Ryder Cup man missed the last event in Jersey a fortnight ago as he underwent a knee operation but is showing no ill effects from his enforced lay-off.
Five shots off the pace after a rounds of 69 are Scotland's David Huish and Warrington's Mike Slater while among the group a further shot back is Seniors Tour Number One Tommy Horton and Northern Ireland's David Jones, winner of the Jersey Seniors Open two weeks ago.
Huddersfield specialist Spain's Antonio Garrido, winner here in 1997 and runner-up after a play-off last year is also on 138.
