Former London fireman Sid Denham set the PGA National course ablaze as he shared the first-round lead in the £180,000 Belfry PGA Seniors Championship.
Denham fired a four-under 68 that he claimed could have been eight or nine under. The 54-year-old had four birdies in the first six holes, reached the turn in 32. Two further birdies and two bogeys brought him back in a level par 36.
Late finishing Italian Alberto Croce matched Denham's score. Former Ryder Cup player John Garner shares third place with American John Grace, who played in the triumphant Walker Cup team at St Andrews 25 years ago.
