Italian Alberto Croce returns to Greece this week as defending champion following his victory 12 months ago when he defeated Spain's Antonio Garrido at the fourth hole of a sudden death play-off when he holed a testing four-foot putt for a birdie three.
Many of the season's champions are once again in the field including Scotland's David Huish, one of only two multiple winners this season.
The tournament is once again being held at Glyfada Golf Club near Athens, hosts of the 1979 World Cup of Golf won by the United States. Runners-up that year were Scotland with the team of Sandy Lyle, former Open and Masters Champion, and Ken Brown. The course, located about 12km south of Athens, was designed by Donald Harradine and opened in 1962. It was later remodelled by Robert Trent Jones Snr in 1979.
