European Seniors Tour Member Mark McNulty continued the good form he showed when finishing in the top five of The Senior British Open Championship, presented by MasterCard, last weekend when he moved into contention after the first round of the US Senior Open.
The 50 year old, who now represents Ireland, carded a three under par 68 at the Bellerive Country Club in St Louis to share fourth after the first round, only three shots behind leader Peter Jacobsen.
The American had to pull out of the tournament at Royal Portrush last week due to the fact he was still recovering from hip surgery, but felt well enough to compete in Missouri. “Hitting the ball is no problem," he said. "Walking 18 holes is the difficult part.”
The other European Seniors Tour Member to finish under par after the first round was England’s Mark James, fourth at Royal Portrush, who opened with a one under par round of 70.
