Play for the second round of the US Senior Open was suspended due to heavy rain and severe flooding on the Bellerive Country Club course. The second round is now due to commence on Saturday, with the final two rounds to be played on Sunday.
USGA Championship Committee chairman Walter Driver said that one hole at the Bellerive Country Club became an "island" because of the rain, and another was almost completely under water.
“Nobody's happy with this turn of events, but we're going to try to complete this championship Sunday night,” Driver said. “While we would prefer they not walk 36, it's a perfectly reasonable trade-off – the players will use their own good judgment.”
Peter Jacobsen leads Craig Stadler at the top of the leaderboard by one stroke after his opening score of six under par 65.
