Torrance Registers 40th Win In Front Of Home Fans At Dalmahoy
Sam Torrance celebrated his 40th victory as a professional in front of his home fans in the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open at Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club. The former Ryder Cup Captain closed with a round of 70 for a winning 54-hole aggregate of three under par 213, beating fellow Scot Bill Longmuir (71) by a shot.
Scots Mount Charge In Rain But Quiros Holds On
The infamous Scottish weather played into the hands of the home contingent at the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open, with Bill Longmuir, Mike Miller and Sam Torrance climbing into contention while the heavy rains washed a number of the early pace-setters down the leaderboard. However, a dogged Spaniard in the shape of Juan Quiros refused to be bowed by the conditions and ground out a level par 72 to lead Miller by one ahead of the final round at Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club.
Spaniards Steal Limelight At Dalmahoy
While all the pre-tournament talk had been about Scottish former Ryder Cup Captains Sam Torrance and Bernard Gallacher, it was the Spanish duo of Juan Quiros and José Rivero who took control on day one of the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open at a blustery Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club. Rivero and Quiros, third and fourth respectively on the European Seniors Tour Order of Merit, both carded fine rounds of three under par 69 to lead by a stroke from defending champion Nick Job of England, Bob Lendzion of the United States and South African Bertus Smit.
Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open to Return to Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club
The Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open will return to Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club in Scotland, from September 1-3. It will be the fourth time the tournament has been staged on Marriott Dalmahoy’s renowned East Course, which has recently undergone a £1m upgrade. On the last occasion the Midlothian venue hosted the Scottish Seniors Open, in 2000, the spectators were treated to a spectacular final day display from Australian Noel Ratcliffe, who produced a seven under par 65 to come from seven strokes off the lead and snatch the title.
