Overnight leader Fred Funk made a steady start to his second round at The Senior Open Championship presented by MasterCard.
The American signed for a record low opening round of 64 but despite birdieing the first Funk failed to make further inroads and was seven under par for the week through 11 holes after ten consecutive pars.
South Africa’s Chris Williams, who had been in the group two shots behind Funk after the first round, had halved the deficit to just one stroke.
Williams, who finished in a tie for second in his maiden Senior event last month, birdied his first three holes to temporarily share the lead before a bogey at the fifth left him six under through six holes.
Zimbabwe’s Denis Watson moved into third on five under with an outward 33 and a birdie at the par five 14th.
American’s Jay Haas and Loren Roberts were yet to tee off after opening with four under par rounds of 66, as was Open Championship runner-up Tom Watson who is further shot back.
