Opened - course started in 1842 by Allan Robertson (10 holes) and completed in 1872 by Tom Morris (18 holes), updated in 1926 by James Braid and James Wright

Other features
The only Open venue to be played by the legendary Ben Hogan in 1953; there is a plaque dedicated to him at the 6th hole and the hole is named Hogan’s Alley
The Championship Course has hosted The Open on seven occasions: 1931 (Tommy Armour), 1937 (Henry Cotton), 1953 (Ben Hogan), 1968 (Gary Player), 1975 (Tom Watson), 1999 (Paul Lawrie), 2007 (Padraig Harrington)
