The European Senior Tour will continue to break new ground in the Far East in 2011 with an historic first visit to Taiwan for the Fubon Senior Open from November 18-20.
Following tournaments in Japan, Brunei and China in 2011, the Fubon Senior Open, played at Miramar Golf and Country Club, will further enhance the Senior Tour’s growing presence in the region.
The 54 hole Fubon Senior Open will be the penultimate event on the 2011 Senior Tour schedule, which concludes with the Mauritius Commercial Bank Open from December 9-11.
With a prize fund of US$400,000, the tournament has the capacity to play a significant role in the 2011 Senior Tour Order of Merit and the race to succeed Boonchu Ruangkit of Thailand as winner of the John Jacobs Trophy.
The 96 player field will comprise 54 Senior Tour Members and 42 from the Senior PGA of Taiwan, which is co-sanctioning the event.
Mr Daniel Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Financial, said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Fubon Senior Open in the first year it has become part of the European Senior Tour. The prize money of US$400,000 is the highest in the history of golf in Taiwan and will give fans in the country the chance to witness the skills of the best senior golfers.
“I would like to thank Mr Hseih Min Nan, President of the Senior PGA of Taiwan, for his support in making it possible for the Fubon Senior Open to successfully become a stop on the European Senior Tour schedule and I look forward to welcoming Mr Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, and all the European Senior Tour players to Taiwan in November.”
Andy Stubbs said: “We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to co-sanction the Fubon Senior Open and we look forward to a long term relationship with Fubon Financial and the Senior PGA of Taiwan.
“The Senior Tour has increasingly strong links with the Far East in recent years and this exciting new tournament reflects our on-going commitment to senior golf in this part of the world.”
Hsieh Min Nan said: “It is our great pleasure and honour to work with the European Senior Tour to organise the 2011 Fubon Senior Open for the first time. All players invited are golf’s best from the senior ranks and I believe their participation will greatly promote the sport of golf in Taiwan, and allow Taiwan to become an international stage for some of the world’s best golfers to showcase their skills.
“On behalf of the Senior PGA of Taiwan, I am grateful for the generosity of Fubon Financial for their continuous sponsorship and of this sporting event. I would also like to thank Miramar Golf and Country Club for providing a great location and I want to extend my sincere appreciation to all those working behind the scenes to ensure the success of the 2011 Fubon Senior Open.”
