Heavy rain at Miramar Golf and Country Club in Taiwan caused play to be suspended in the second round of the Fubon Senior Open, with home favourite Chien Soon Lu remaining at the top of the leaderboard.
With the leading groups through four holes, play was suspended 12.17 local time due to the course being flooded.
Officials then made the decision to stop play for the day, with Lu one under par for the day following a birdie on the second hole. That took him to nine under par for the tournament after an opening round 64 and he is two strokes clear of Japan’s Massy Kuramoto, who birdied the first and fourth holes to move to seven under par after opening with a five under par 67.
Second round play will resume on Sunday at 06.45 local time, with Englishman Roger Chapman hoping to put pressure on Lu. Chapman, who carded an opening round 67, began his second round with a birdie and added three consecutive pars to his scorecard before the suspension.
Frankie Minoza of the Philippines, who had shared second place overnight with Chapman and Kuramoto, struggled at the start of his second round, with a bogey on the first and double bogey on the fourth to drop back to two under par and a share of 13th position.
English pair Gordon J Brand and Mitch Kierstenson were among the big movers before the suspension, with both players three under par for the day through 12 holes and nine holes respectively to share ninth place on three under par.
The field will be cut to the leading 60 players and ties following the completion of the second round on Sunday. The third round is then scheduled to begin immediately afterwards.
