He may not be competing in this week’s tournament, but Gary Player’s role as Tournament Ambassador to the Berenberg Bank Masters has been an overwhelming success as the legendary South African delighted the crowds at the Golfclub Wörthsee.

Player played a starring role in the two pre-tournament Pro-Ams on Wednesday and Thursday before hosting a hugely popular golf clinic with young German golfers.

The 76 year old nine-time Major Champion welcomed kids from over 30 Golf Clubs that form the ‘Leading Golf Clubs of Germany’ group and hosted a ‘Beat the Black Knight’ competition on the Golfclub Wörthsee’s second course.

Player helped the youngsters with their games on the range and also spoke passionately of the need for fitness and preparation in the modern game, before hosting a series of mini-competitions including nearest the pin  and putting challenges.

“It is great to see so many talented young golfers that are passionate about the sport and who really want to learn and get the most out of their games,” said Player.

“It doesn’t matter what ability you play to as long as you have the passion then you can get so much out of this great game. It was a real pleasure to host our clinic here at the Berenberg Bank Masters and I hope the kids that came along got as much out of the experience as I did.”
