The Senior Open presented by Rolex returns to Turnberry for a record seventh time in 2012. It is the first time the Scottish venue has hosted the Championship since 2006 when American Loren Roberts triumphed in a play-off over Argentina’s Eduardo Romero. Turnberry hosted the inaugural Senior Open Championship in 1987 and American Russ Cochran will be the defending champion after winning the 25th anniversary edition at Walton Heath in 2011, taking the title by two shots from compatriot and 1989 Open Champion Mark Calcavecchia. Germany’s Bernhard Langer claimed the famous trophy when the Senior Open last visited Scotland at Carnoustie in 2010, becoming the first European winner since Christy O’Connor Jnr in 1999 and 2000.
