Colin Montgomerie remained on course for a first European Senior Tour title as a fabulous eagle sent the Scot into a commanding lead during the final day of the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters.
With superb crowds once again in attendance at Woburn Golf Club for the conclusion of the 13th edition of the Senior Masters, Montgomerie, who started the day three clear of his nearest challenger Carl Mason, made an ideal start after getting up and down from the greenside bunker for birdie at the par five opener to immediately stretch his lead to four.
There was plenty of sunshine on Sunday but the swirling Woburn wind remained, however Montgomerie appeared unmoved, carding three straight pars before an eagle at the long fifth hole extended his lead to six shots.
After a steady if unspectacular six par start, two-time champion Mason bogeyed the par four seventh to leave Montgomerie in a dominant position as he searches for a maiden victory in the Senior ranks just his third start.
Paul Wesselingh, the 2012 Rookie of the Year, was making the move of the day, meanwhile, as he found four birdies in six holes from the fifth before adding an eagle at the par five 11th to move alongside Mason in the tie for second on four under par.
