Paul Wesselingh moved into pole position to win the European Senior Tour Order of Merit with victory in the Fubon Senior Open, the penultimate event of the season.

The Englishman leapfrogged Denmark’s Steen Tinning at the top of the money list with the €59,869 first prize at Miramar Golf and Country Club in Taiwan, where a final round two under par 70 gave him a one shot victory over home favourite Lu Wen-the.

England’s Bob Cameron took third place, and his compatriots Simon P Brown and Paul Eales shared fourth.

With only the €400,000 MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius remaining, Wesselingh made a huge move with his third title of the season, following wins in the ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship and the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open.

Wesselingh said: "It was unbelievable. It's been a dream week. It was a bit of a struggle today and difficult with a gusty wind, but I made two birdies in the first two holes.

"I then threw them away at the fourth and fifth - it's a very difficult stretch - but I parred my way round before birdieing the 16th and 18th.

"I had a massive break on the 15th when I pulled my tee shot miles left, but it hit the cart path two or three times and ended up just 50 yards from the green, so I was able to just chip and two-putt there.

"I hit a great tee shot on the 16th and a pitching wedge to ten feet. On the last I knew Mr Lu would go for the green in two, so I did as well. I found the bunker but had a good lie. I had a putt from four feet to win, and I could hardly feel the putter I was so nervous.

"It's great to be back on top of the Order of Merit with a nice lead. It's going to be between me and Steen to win. I love to play in Mauritius and it's going to be a very exciting event. Whatever happens it's been a phenomenal year and if anyone had told me I'd win three times and be at the top of the Order or Merit, I would have bitten their hand off."
