Former Ryder Cup player Paul Broadhurst won his second title at Le Golf National, host venue of The 2018 Ryder Cup, after a final day battle with John Daly at the Paris Legends Championship.

The Englishman, a member of Europe’s 1991 Ryder Cup side, won the Open de France on L’Albatros course in 1995 and carded rounds of 65-70-69 to win his fourth European Senior Tour title – his second victory of the season after winning the Scottish Senior Open in August.

Broadhurst, the 36-hole leader at Le Golf National, a European Tour Destination, made the turn in level par on the day, nine under par overall, as Daly birdied the tenth hole to move to ten under par, taking the lead for the first time.

However, the two-time Major Champion dropped a shot on the tricky par four 13th  and Broadhurst made three birdies on the final seven holes for a three under par final round and a two-stroke victory.

“It’s pretty special to win twice on the same course,” said Broadhurst. “It was a tough day out there today, I had to earn that. It wasn’t easy going. It was the first day we had any sort of wind and that gave us a different challenge.

“John took the lead with a good birdie at ten and I thought that was me done. I got away with a tee shot on 13 and hit it really close for birdie. He had a bad lie, hit it into the water and made bogey – that was the turning point.

“I played really well from then on. I hit it close on 14, holed a great putt for par on 15 to keep me ahead. A good tee shot on 16, a great second shot on 17 to three feet for birdie. That was it then, I could relax a little; but I’ve had eights and nines on the last on this course before. I held it together and then finished the job. To win wire-to-wire here and in Scotland is special.”

Phil Golding, winner of the Open de France at Le Golf National in 2003, finished third on nine under par one stroke ahead of double Senior Major winner Roger Chapman.

Magnus P Atlevi, winner of the inaugural Paris Legends Championship in 2016, finished in a share of fifth place with James Kingston.
