More than 500 golfers will battle it out for a minimum of 49 places at this week’s Senior Open Presented by Rolex at four sites in Lancashire on Monday.
Fairhaven, Hillside, Southport & Ainsdale and St Annes Old Links are hosts of this year’s Monday Qualifiers for The Senior Open Presented by Rolex, with 49 set to earn their places at Royal Lytham & St Annes as Europe’s only Senior Major Championship returns to the famed Lancashire links for the first time in 25 years.

Of those attempting to qualify are Ryder Cup players, European Tour and PGA Tour winners and victors on both sides of the Atlantic on the over-50s circuit.
Of the more than 500 set to compete on Monday are 124 amateurs. The lowest round by an amateur in Senior Open history came at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 1992 when Michael Noon carded a five under par 66 – he also led the Championship after the second round.
The last qualifier to win The Senior Open was Pete Oakley in 2004, who won on the Dunluce course at Royal Portrush – host of this year’s Open Championship.
Gary Nicklaus, son of 18-time Major Champion Jack, is bidding for his first Senior Open appearance after turning 50 in January while Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee will attempt to qualify for the second-consecutive year when he tees off at Fairhaven at 14:25.
