The longest running event on the European Challenge Tour, the Rolex Trophy, returns for its 32nd staging, with Golf Club de Genève set to host the limited field event once again from August 19-22.
Only 40 Challenge Tour players tee it up at the Swiss venue with the leading 35 players on the Road to Mallorca Rankings at close of entry, plus the top three players on the Rankings not otherwise exempt, along with the leading Swiss player and one tournament invite.
They make up an exclusive field that play the Pro-Am format event, where one professional plays with three amateurs for three rounds after starting the event playing alongside some of the best junior golfers in the country.
The iconic Challenge Tour event has been won by some of golf’s biggest names, including a Ryder Cup winner, European Tour champions and three Challenge Tour Graduates of the Year.
Darius van Driel recorded final rounds of 63-64 for a one-shot victory in 2019, 12 months after Kim Koivu opened with a bogey-free ten under par round of 62 en route to sealing his third victory of the year to earn immediate promotion to the European Tour.
South Korea’s Byeong Hun An was crowned champion in 2014 before claiming the Challenge Tour Graduate of the Year award the following season. Interestingly, it was a feature of the next two winners of the longest running Challenge Tour event.
Spaniard Nacho Elvira reigned supreme in Switzerland in 2015 before being award the Graduate of the Year title, and Dylan Frittelli followed suit, winning at Golf Club de Genève before clinching the award for the best performing Challenge Tour graduate in 2017.
2018 Ryder Cup star Alex Noren, who holed a memorable putt on the 18th green at Le Golf National as Europe beat America 17.5 – 10.5, carded four under par rounds to win the event 14 years ago.
