Alfredo Garcia-Heredia had a Challenge Tour season to remember in 2021, finishing sixth on the Road to Mallorca Rankings to earn his 2022 DP World Tour card.
The Spaniard received invites from the DP World Tour to begin the 2021 season in his homeland and impressed with a tied 12th place finish in the Canary Islands Championship where South African Garrick Higgo secured victory.
Garcia-Heredia carried this momentum on to the Challenge Tour, starting with a third place finish at the Irish Challenge, where he carded a seven under par opening round of 64 but eventually finished one-shot back from countryman Eduard Rousaud and 31-year-old Daan Huizing, who went on to win at Portmarnock Links.
The 39-year-old Spaniard recorded a tie for fourth on home soil at the Challenge de Cádiz and a tie for third at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge before securing a maiden Challenge Tour victory in dramatic fashion at the B-NL Challenge Trophy. Garcia-Heredia came out on top in a four-way-play-off at The Dutch, birdieing the seventh play-off hole to defeat 2021 Road to Mallorca Number One Marcus Helligkilde.
Garcia-Heredia arrived at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final in fifth place on the Rankings with his 2022 DP World Tour playing rights already secured. Rounds of 69-77-71-77 meant the Spaniard finished sixth on the season-long Rankings.
The Spaniard previously earnt his DP World Tour card in 2008 and 2010 through Qualifying School and will be looking to use his experience to achieve greater success in 2022. He began his DP World Tour season at the Joburg Open last week finishing in a tie for 32nd as the tournament was reduced to 36 holes due to the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant and weather delays.
